The 2019 AIMS North Queensland regional seminar was held in early April at the unique location of Glencore’s Ernest Henry Mine, located 38km North East of the Cloncurry township.
Centrally located within the Western metals province, this location was chosen to reduce the travel distance to some of the more remote sites.
Initial planning for the seminar was temporarily stalled in February with the devastating floods that affected the area, but the seminar plans still went ahead and was well attended by 22 mine surveyors and industry sponsors including AAM, CR Kennedy, GeoSight and Ultimate Positioning Group.
The seminar had a theme of “Show and Tell” which was intended to give presenters an opportunity to share what they have been working on lately. A common theme was the implementation and management of monitoring systems from both the suppliers and their clients, highly relevant to mine safety with rapidly changing systems and advancements in measurement technology.
A tour of the Ernest Henry Underground was also conducted the following day showcasing the crushing, conveying and hoisting infrastructure.
Thank you to all sponsors and organisers and we hope to do it all again next year for North Queenslanders!
