The annual AIMS Kalgoorlie Networking Event was held at Hannan’s Club on Thursday May 20th.
It was well attended by local surveyors, (WASM) West Australian School of Mines students and several sponsors. AIMS President, Mick Harris, attended and gave a presentation on the Institute’s latest activities, the benefits of membership and our upcoming Perth National Conference.
The students were grateful for the opportunity to mix with local surveyors and had plenty of questions on how best to obtain employment in the current market.
Thanks go to Renny Leo and Daniel Brooks for convening this successful event. Kalgoorlie like all the mining towns in other states is feeling the effects of low commodity prices, however there are plenty of positive stories of mining operations doing well in the current climate. The surveyors are constantly adapting to having leaner survey teams and using technology to assist them achieve their tasks.
As always it was great to hear about the latest developments in surveying equipment and software from our regular sponsors of Fugro, Position Partners and CR Kennedy and to join them for some refreshments afterwards. Haefeli-Lysnar, WA Trimble distributors also attended and we will hopefully also see them at Perth in August.
