AIMS/RMIT Scholarship Awarded

2019 rmit 2 180x160The Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors,in partnership with the RMIT University in Melbourne, has awarded it's scholarship in Mine Surveying to Jonathan Blowfield.

The award, named the AIMS Mine Surveying Prize, was given at the Geospatial Science Student Association (GSSA) Award Gala Ball, held the Coral Atoll Function room, Melbourne Aquarium on Friday, 23 August 2019.

The GSSA Annual Ball has a proud history stretching back more than 50 years and has become an annual highlight on the geospatial industry calendar for industry representatives, students and faculty.

2019 rmit 2The award Ceremony was officially opened by Surveyor General of Victoria, Mr. Craig Sandy Ls.

The scholarship was awarded to Jonathan Blowfield, a Bachelor of Applied Science student with the best academic results in Engineering Surveying 1 and Engineering Surveying 2 and who is most likely to excel in the practical world of Mine Surveying.

AIMS Director, Julia Reynolds presented the award to Mr. Blowfield at the ceremony.

Mr. Blowfield is a high achiever from Melbourne Victoria, currently working in the Mining Area C as a mine surveyor. He is in the process of completing his studies and is ultimately  pursuing a career in the resources sector. He expressed gratitude for the recognition and support of AIMS.

Professor Matt Duckham, Associate Dean, Geospatial Science RMIT University, said, “We are very grateful to the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors for it's continued support of our students through your prize. We once again invite AIMS to help recognise outstanding student achievements for the 2020 academic year”

AIMS Director Julia Reynolds said, “AIMS is committed to promoting the Mine surveying and related fields of study.”

“We will continue to work with universities, companies and other agencies to encourage outstanding students’ participation in studying and developing a career in mine surveying,” Ms Reynolds added.

AIMS wishes Mr. Blowfield all the best with his career and look forward to him one day joining AIMS as a fully-fledged member, with a mining endorsement.
