A worrying trend observed by the assessors is the lack of preparation from the candidates and lack of supervision given by their supervising surveyors. Supervising surveyors and their candidates should ensure they have had a thorough understanding of the Board’s Examination Determination, the Board’s Guidelines for Land Surveying Assessments, and the Board’s new Guidelines for Surveyors who are Supervising Candidates. These are all available at the Board’s website within the Publications > Determinations and Policies section. These documents give detailed information on the assessment process, what is required for each assessment, and the various requirements for gaining registration.
Change to BOSSI CPD Policy
At the recent BOSSI meeting held on 23rd February, the Board has approved a new CPD Determination. This Determination is available on the Board’s website within the Publications > Determinations and Policies section. Changes include:
- All events must be assessed by a ratified organisation. No self-assessed events will be accepted.
- Level of audit has been raised from 20% to 30% of all registered surveyors.
- Only acceptable documentation for audit will be a CPD Certificate from a ratified organisation or individual attendance certificates from a ratified organisation.
- Changes to CPD requirements for surveyors for their initial CPD Year once they gain registration via the assessment process or via mutual recognition.
All surveyors should all make sure they review the new Determination as these new requirements will be in place for the audit undertaken in September 2017. All unacceptable submissions will be returned and surveyors will be asked to approach a ratified organisation to have their submission assessed.
New communication delivery
Please note the Board will be soon introducing a mechanism to send emails to all registered surveyors in order to keep registered surveyors in touch with latest changes to Board’s policies and procedures and to remind registered surveyors of upcoming renewals and important dates.
With this in mind a lot of registered surveyors have been contacted by the BOSSI Secretariat to provide or update their contact details. This has been to make sure our database is correct and to ensure the new all registered surveyor email distribution list can be put in place.
To ensure you don’t miss out on any communications from the Board, it is encouraged that all registered surveyors and candidate surveyors ensure that their contact details are up to date with BOSSI. Please note BOSSI does not share any information with any other organisation due to privacy and as such changing your contact details at Land and Property Information or the Institution of Surveyors NSW does not automatically change your details at BOSSI.
To notify the Board of changes to your contact details, please download and complete a Surveyor Change of Contact Details form which can be found on the Board’s website in the Publications>Forms section. This form is currently the only acceptable method of changing your details, emails will not be accepted.
Early Notice for Registration Renewals
To end off, all registered surveyors are reminded that annual registration renewals will be open as of 1 July 2017 and will close on 31 August 2017. If payments are not received on or before 31 August 2017, under Section 10A of the Surveying and Spatial Information Act 2002, the Board must remove registered surveyors from the register who have not paid. The best way to ensure you don’t get removed from the register and then go through the process of getting restored is to make sure you get your payment in on time.
