BOSSI held its presentation ceremony in Sydney on 29th November 2024.

The 2024 AIMS Hunter Valley Regional Seminar was held at the Mercure Resort, Hunter Valley Gardens on Friday 15 November 2024.

The AIMS Surveying prize for 2024 has been awarded to Ali Carrera (Bachelor of Spatial Science (Honours) - Surveying) from the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).

The 2024 AIMS Conference, held in Perth, Western Australia from August 19th to 21st, was one of our largest and most successful events to date.

The AIMS NSW Committee has received a research request and are supportive of the research being undertaken.

On Sunday 18th August 2024 the annual business planning meeting was held for the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors.

AIMS Member Mark Scholes, a Registered Mine Surveyor, has been awarded the prestigious title of AIMS Fellow at the recent 2024 AIMS National Conference.

Applications for 2027 are expected to be available from September 2026.

Corporate Membership applications are offered each year for the following year's memberships.

WHAT IS AIMS CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP?

'AIMS Corporate Membership' is a bulk-purchasing membership option that enables a company to purchase bulk membership seats on behalf of their employees, giving their employees the opportunity to join or renew their AIMS membership at no personal cost. 

A 'Corporate Company' is a company that purchases the AIMS Corporate Membership for its employees. 

A 'Corporate Admin' is a nominated representative of the Corporate Company, who purchases multiple 'membership seats' on behalf of the company and receives a unique coupon code to communicate to eligible employees to join or renew at no personal expense. The Corporate Admin does NOT need to be an AIMS Member.

 A 'Membership Seat' can include any new membership OR renewal of the following membership levels;

• Full Member (Corporate), OR
• Affiliate Member (Corporate)

A 'Corporate Member' is a person who is (or becomes) a member of one of the above membership categories using a valid code. 

IS AIMS CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP THE SAME AS AIMS SPONSORSHIP?

No, AIMS Corporate Membership is NOT the same as AIMS Sponsorship, and corporate companies may or may not be AIMS Sponsors as well.

I AM A CURRENT MEMBER, HOW DO I RENEW AS A CORPORATE MEMBER?

Existing AIMS members (who are not currently Corporate Members) will need to vary their standard membership over to a corporate level, using a current code, to receive the discount.

Existing AIMS Corporate members can renew their corporate membership using the new code supplied by AIMS to the Corporate Admin (once they have purchased a bulk renewal). 

WHAT IF I LEAVE THE CORPORATE COMPANY?

If you cease employment with the Corporate Company, your AIMS Corporate Membership is no longer valid - please vary your membership back to a standard membership ASAP (at no cost if still current). 

HOW MUCH IS CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP?

HOW DOES MY COMPANY APPLY?

Any company admin can apply or enquire by submitting a CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP ENQUIRY FORM

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP?

Corporate membership provides benefits to the company, their employees and AIMS;

Company Benefits:

• acknowledgement as a "Corporate Company" on the AIMS website,
• demonstrate a commitment to the mine surveying industry,
• provide an additional benefit to employees,
• reduce administration eg processing expense claims,
• be seen as a good corporate citizen, and
• be recognised as supporting AIMS

Employee Benefits:

• free membership to AIMS,
• enjoy all ongoing member benefits eg discounts to events,
• removal of financial obstacles to membership,
• enhance professional development and networking opportunities

AIMS Benefits:

• Potential increase in membership,
• Wider exposure and awareness of the association

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES AND/OR POTENTIAL RISKS?

Corporate membership involves responsibilities and some potential risks to the company, their employees and AIMS.

CORPORATE COMPANY / CORPORATE ADMIN

It is the company admins responsibility (on behalf of the Corporate Company)  to;

• pass on the unique code ONLY to eligible employees and to encourage them to join or renew AIMS membership for free,
• take reasonable steps to ensure the code is not advertised publicly or passed on to non-employees,
• confirm the current employment status of any member application using the code when requested,
• accept that no credit for any unused codes will be available and the codes will not roll-over into the following year,
• accept that the upfront payment may end up more or less than the equivalent individual membership pricing.

 
THE COMPANY EMPLOYEES

Employees of the Corporate Company must:

• register (or renew) as an individual member and agree to the terms and conditions,
• use a current and valid code in order to receive the discount,
• declare they are valid members and current employees of the Corporate Member, and
• vary their membership level back to standard membership if they leave the Corporate Company

 
AIMS

AIMS must:

• monitor and approve (or reject) all membership applications/renewals,
• take reasonable steps to validate the use of the discount code,
• communicate the use of the coupon code to the Corporate Company Admin on a regular basis for validation, or upon request, and 
• accept that the upfront payment received may end up more or less than the equivalent individual membership pricing.

The 2024 AIMS Scholarship at Curtin University has been awarded to Blake Botica.

In April 2024, long-time AIMS member Jason Gray was awarded a prize for the most outstanding mining surveying candidate at the annual NSW BOSSI awards ceremony in Sydney. 

The Mudgee Regional AIMS Seminar for 2024 was another great success.

The NSW Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) held its annual presentation and awards ceremony in Sydney on Friday 12th April 2024, recognising those land and mining surveyors who have become Registered in the past year.

The latest AIMS Salary Survey and Feedback Report is now available for members after login. The report has been independently compiled and is available to view and download with various filters for added convenience.

The Surveyors Competency Advisory Committee (SCAC) team have been working closely with DEMIRS over the last few months to have the Authorisation process completed and documented. I can share some news below from Martin Ralph – Chief Inspector of Mines (see below in blue).

Congratulations to Benjamin Dewar, the 2023 recipient of the AIMS Scholarship at Curtin University.

AIMS are very pleased to advise that Pete Sergeant is the new AIMS representative for BOSSI.

The AIMS 2023 Hunter Valley Regional Seminar was held in Pokolbin on Thursday 16th November at the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Hardens, with over 60 people in attendance.

Ian Payne was elected a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Mine Surveyors on 14th September 2023 at the AIMS 2023 Annual General Meeting held during the AIMS 2023 National Conference in Sydney.
