Always try your hardest and take nothing for granted in life.

Driven with the late Peter Brock in the passenger’s seat around Wakefield.

What makes you happy? 
Being with the family and learning new things

I was a Senior Surveyor once – everything did GGrrrr

Career Influences?
Working and being mentored by Glenn Edwards (aka Sunshine) through my early days and then Damian Vella in my later years in surveying and recon.

Career highlight (biggest achievement)?
Being nominated by my team and then peers for USQ Engineering & Surveying Alumnus of the year in 2012 & 2013. And winning QLD Spatial Excellence Award – Young Spatial Professional of the Year in 2013.

Career shocker?
Driving to the wrong mine one morning.

Career goals?
To continue helping up and coming surveyors and leaders within the spatial science community, and to continue to evolve surveying technology.

Survey Work / People

What is the best piece of survey equipment/technology/software that you have used & why?
Developing it now – Dragline DTM scanner system. UASs (aircraft & boats) are fun as well.

What is the oldest piece of survey equipment that you have used?
T2, still got it on my shelf

Who's the strangest/funniest/unorthodox survey character that you've met so far (and why) ?
It’s the world that is strange and unorthodox…..aren’t surveyors all normal?

What's the most contentious survey issue in your workplace at the moment? (eg. Hours of work, $$, career path, poor planning/scheduling, technology/equipment improvements, field experience, housing, training …???)
Technology improvements

If you were the boss for a day - list 3 things you would change? 
Treat all within Mine Planning / Technical Services equal, allow thinking outside the box, no clean desk policy (empty desk = empty mind!)

APART from $$, what factor attracts you to work in the mining industry as opposed to other survey disciplines?
Multi requirements and tasks…eg enviro, engineering, hydrology, geotech, planning, R&D, aerial, gas drainage, etc

Would you recommend a career in surveying to a grade 12 school kid? If not, what career would you recommend?

Enjoy promoting Spatial Science careers, not only to High school students, but those looking for a career change.



How do you relax?
Motor racing, and learning new things

What sports do you play/ watch.
Motor racing, rugby union

What are your other hobbies outside work?
Family time, astronomy, university study and mentoring

Where would be your ideal retirement location?
NZ….can import any type of sport/hyper car for the roads.

OP Bundy rum

The Worlds Fastest Indian, or Senna

A phone call to the wife asking for more money!
