The NSW Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) held its annual presentation and awards ceremony in Sydney on Friday 12th April 2024, recognising those land and mining surveyors who have become Registered in the past year.
2023 saw three new mining surveyors become registered with BOSSI, joining approximately 100 others in NSW who work for mining and contracting companies at various types of mining operations, including underground and open cut mines which extract precious metals, coal or other minerals.
Certificates of Competency were presented by NSW Surveyor-General and President of BOSSI, Narelle Underwood to Mining Surveyors Jeremy Seymour, Jason Gray and Travis Small.
AIMS was proud to be represented at the event by President James Sherritt and AIMS’ nominee to BOSSI, Peter Sergeant, with James presenting a prize for the most outstanding mining surveying candidate to Jason Gray. The prize, sponsored by AIMS, is named in honour of World War I soldier, Mining Surveyor and Victoria Cross Medal recipient Clarence Jeffries, and is awarded annually by BOSSI.
The ceremony also recognised those Registered Surveyors who are retiring from practice, with a certificate of meritorious service.

AIMS is proud to support new and emerging mining surveyors through the registration process by holding candidate workshops to explain the process and to help candidates to build a network of contacts with other mining surveyors who are working towards gain Registration. AIMS also holds numerous professional development seminars and an annual national conference which are attended by mining surveyors at all levels of experience to keep up to date with legislative requirements, industry developments and technology.
