Moranbah 2017 Technology Day Review

moranbah 2017Another successful Technology Day was held in Moranbah in 2017 on 10th May with 50 attendees from a majority of the surrounding mines.

The format of the day was again universally enjoyed with some feedback such as “The day was by far the most interesting/useful seminar I have been to for quite a while! Will definitely be back next year!!”.

Our new SBQ Mining advisor, Ken Cross and QLD Subcommittee Chairperson, Ben Stewart, introduced themselves and spoke of AIMS’ current achievements, our directions and goals and also the role of the new subcommittee.

A common point of discussion among delegates was around the huge acceleration of change in technology in the last few years. Who knows what next year will bring?

Requests for feedback about whether this type of format should remain an annual event or changing back to technical papers next year, the response was that they would like this the rotational workshops to continue. As technology is just the tool to execute our role, the combination of these regional days with the national conference with the technical presentations appears to be a great mix and is providing high quality CPD.

Technology is important for efficiency but the appropriate use of it and how we maintain standards and compliance is the most critical in our profession.

Whilst it is disappointing, the majority of attendees were non AIMS members, it was encouraging to get numerous inquiries about AIMS membership on the day. The Surveyors Board of QLD training advocate, Stephen Steggall, ran a candidates session on the following day with 6 participants which was also well received.

A big thank you to the SBQ, all our sponsors, who continue to bring high quality workshops every year, and to Conference Images who as always make these events enjoyable and hassle free.
