Strategic
inquiry into underground coal mining in the Southern Coalfield
Following
from the December 2006 government announcement that an inquiry into the
impacts of underground coal mining on natural features in the Southern
Coalfield would be commissioned, the NSW Department of Planning has released
the final report from the inquiry.
The inquiry
established
an independent expert panel to undertake a strategic review of the impacts
of underground mining in the Southern Coalfield on significant natural
features (rivers and significant streams, swamps and cliff lines) and report
on the social and economic significance to the region and the State of the
coalfield resources.
The report is available here to
download directly, and more information is also available from the NSW
Department of Planning website.
