Due to recent changes to the Queensland legislation pertaining to who can sign statutory mine plans in Queensland, the Surveyors Board of Queensland has adopted the “100 points” system of determining acceptance of the academic requirements for registration as a Surveyor.

2016 International Mine Surveying Congress for Brisbane
AIMS is pleased to announce that following recent lobbying of the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM), Australia will be the host nation for the XVIth International Mine Surveying Congress in 2016 and will be held in Brisbane. Announced at the recent Presidium meeting in Freiberg, Germany, the 2016 congress will be the second time that Australia has played host to the world's biggest meeting of mine surveyors, with the last congress held on our shores in 1997 in Fremantle.
Australian Academic new ISM Vice President
Congratulations to Dr. Andrew Jarosz for Curtin University's WA School of Mines who was recently elected Vice President of the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM). Associate Professor Jarosz has been Australia's representative to ISM for several years, raising Australian mine surveying issues on the world stage.
WA Authorised Mine Surveyor Exams
Mine Survey Board is meeting on the 15th November to conduct the exam process for Authorised Mine Surveyors. This means that the cut off date for applications to the MSB will be around the 14th October, which will allow suitable time between the exams and the board meeting.

Maptek has released version 3.5 of its laser scan modelling software I-Site Studio. The release coincides with the launch of a dedicated geotechnical module, guaranteed to have site geologists keen to try it out for mapping and analysis.

Inquiry into the use fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workforce practices in regional Australia
On Tuesday 23 August 2011 the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, The Hon Simon Crean MP, asked the Committee to inquire into and report on the use fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) and drive-in, drive-out (DIDO) workforce practices in Regional Australia. The Committee invites interested persons and organisations to make submissions addressing the terms of reference by Friday 7 October 2011.
